Traffic Deaths Down In 2006 According to Federal Government Statistics in 'per mile' U.S. Traffic Deaths - Motorcycle Injuries Up

LOS ANGELES (ehlinelaw.com) -- United States traffic deaths reduced in 2006, which is a record low based upon statistics provided by the U.S. Department of Transportation on November 26, 2007.

In the year 2006, 42,642 people were killed as the result of traffic accidents on U.S, roadways. This amounts to a reduction 868 traffic related deaths in the United States. That is a slight reduction of about 2%, down from year 2005. This equates to 1.42 individuals per 100 million vehicle miles on the roads. This is an all time low, according to the U.S. DOT.


Those statistics also show 30,251 traffic fatalities in passenger vehicles. This includes small cars, mid-size cars, large cars, small and medium trucks, SUVs, passenger vans. This is so low it compares to 1993, based upon the DOT report!

"Tough safety requirements and new technologies are helping to make our vehicles safer and our roads less deadly," stated DOT secretary Mary Peters.

When compared to year 2005, passenger vehicle wrecks went down by 6.2 percent.

But alcohol/drug related deaths went up a little bit when comparing 2005 similar deaths. This figure went 15,102 to 15,121.

The bad news is that motorcycle related deaths increased by 5.1%. This makes the 9th consecutive increase for motorcycle death accidents. Drunk-driving crack downs are obviously a high a priority according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

California School Bus Accident in Vacaville

LOS ANGELES - On 11-15-07, two Travis Elementary School students were victims of serious injuries but were later turned back over to their parents. The injuries were the result of a the school bus they were riding in colliding with a passenger vehicle at the 1100 block of Cloverbrook Circle.

According to local police, no citations issued and no other injuries were reported.

CHP officers stated that Nabael Hassan, 17 years old, of Vacaville, California, was headed south on Cloverbrook and was traveling at about 15 mph. He suddenly came around a corner and the sun blinded him. The school bus driver, Steven Bacom, 53 years old, stated he slowed the bus right before the impact.

Hassan's 1993 Honda Civic hit the left front of the school bus and became pinned underneath the bumper.

12 students in the school bus and a school assistant aide were riding in the bus. The school bus accident happened right before 7:30 a.m.

Britney Spears Pays Money to Get Hit and Run Charges Dropped
