According to reports by the California Highway Patrol the rollover accident in which a woman was severely injured occurred at approximately, 8:16 a.m. on the I-5 freeway, in the vicinity north of Ortega highway in the southbound lanes.
The woman injured was driving a gold Pontiac sedan when according to California Highway Patrol Officer Burchiga, witnesses stated the woman had swerved to avoid tire tread on the freeway. This caused her to lose control of the vehicle and the vehicle drove up a steep embankment. The vehicle rolled back down the embankment and rolled over. The vehicle came to rest on its roof in the number 4 lane.
Capt. Greg McKeown of the Orange County Fire Authority stated crews responded to the scene the accident and found that the woman had been pulled from the vehicle. The firefighters also pried open the vehicle in search of any other passengers in the vehicle, which included a child. The firefighters confirmed by the father that the child was in the care of the babysitter.
According to Officer Burchiga the woman that had been injured was disoriented, the officer assumed it was due to head injuries. The injured woman was taken to mission hospital and is said to have severe injuries the officer stated.
