Crash On I-5 Closes Lanes After Rollover

August 30, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports an accident involving an SUV closed two northbound lanes on the I-5.

The accident occurred at approximately 8:48 p.m. Saturday evening and according to the California Highway Patrol, the crash involved a Toyota 4Runner that overturned following the crash.

Orange County Fire Authority responded to the scene of the crash according to a dispatcher, with an ambulance and the extent of the injuries have not been reported. There was also a tow truck on the scene to remove the overturned SUV.

The California Highway Patrol issued a Sig Alert for the number 1 and 2 lanes in the vicinity south of Beach Boulevard. The SigAlert was issued for 30 minutes after officers found both lanes were blocked by the crash and overturned 4Runner.

Writer of Pulp Fiction Pleads Guilty Of DUI Manslaughter

August 22, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports the Oscar winning writer of Pulp Fiction pleaded guilty of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence.

Roger Avary the Hollywood writer after pleading guilty in Ventura County to driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter and is scheduled to be sentenced next month, for the accident that took place on January 13th that took the life of Avary’s passenger.

Avary who was driving his Mercedes sedan home late on January 13th failed to make a turn causing the single car accident and at the time was over the legal limit of alcohol to drive a motor vehicle. The passenger was identified as Andreas Zini, who was visiting from Italy on his honeymoon, with his wife who was in a different vehicle at the time of the traffic accidents los angeles.

At the scheduled sentencing court date set for September 29th Avary will face from one to six years in a California state prison and can depend on whether the court feels he showed gross negligence in addition to driving under the influence. Avary is currently free on bail until his September sentencing date for driving his Mercedes while under the influence and fatally injuring Zini.

Councilman Arrested After Striking Pole Cutting Off Power To 300

August 4, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports Westminster City Councilman Andy Quach was arrested after crashing his car.

According to the Westminster Police Quach was involved in an accident in a Mercedes-Benz he was driving, when he struck a moving vehicle and then struck a power pole that knocked out power to over 300 homes.

The Westminster City Councilman was traveling east on McFadden Avenue, when he struck another vehicle that was also traveling east. The three passengers in the vehicle according to Sgt Schoonmaker were evaluated by paramedics at the scene of the accident and did not require further medical treatment.

The vehicle sustained minor damage during the collision with Quach’s S550 Mercedes-Benz, after which he struck a power pole in the 8800 block of McFadden Avenue according to authorities, knocking out power to area homes.

Quach stated that he was thankful that no one was seriously hurt and that he feels bad about the incident. He also stated that he had been out with friends and was on his way home at the time of the accident.

According to the Westminster Police Department the Councilman submitted to a alcohol blood test after the crash and they are awaiting the results.

Inglewood Hit and Run Kills 14 Year Old

August 3, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports by a motor vehicle accident attorney, a 14 year old boy was struck and killed in Inglewood by a hit and run driver.

According to Inglewood Police Sgt. Greg Held the boy was struck by a vehicle shortly after 1:00 a.m. on Sunday in the vicinity of Crenshaw Boulevard. The impact from the vehicle caused the boy to become trapped under the vehicle and dragged approximately 50 feet. The vehicle then fled the scene of the accident.

Friends of the teen stated that the teen was crossing the Imperial Highway at the time of the accident and witnesses state the vehicle might have been a red Ford Focus.

Inglewood Police Officer Sgt. Greg Held stated an officer heard the collision at approximately 1:04 a.m. and that the car sped away from the scene.

The 14 year old boy, whose identity has not been released, was transported to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. This appears to be a wrongful death of a child and is very sad.

The teen’s family has appeared on a local television station pleading for the driver of the vehicle to turn him or herself in to the authorities and the Inglewood Police Department is asking that anyone with any information about the hit and run contact them.

Couple Ejected From Vehicle On 10 Freeway Before Transit Bus Struck The Vehicle

August 1, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports two people identified as a male in his 20’s and a female in her 20’s were ejected from a vehicle on the 10 Freeway after the man lost control.

The reason the man lost control of the vehicle is unknown, the accident occurred in the westbound lanes in the vicinity of Baldwin Avenue at approximately 9:15 p.m. according to Inspector Fredric Stowers of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. After the driver lost control of the vehicle the car struck the center divider, the driver and his female passenger were ejected from the vehicle landing on the Metrolink train tracks below the freeway.

A Foothill Transit Bus then struck the vehicle when it was unable to stop according to California Highway Patrol Officer Sgt. Steve Pessell. The bus then pushed the vehicle pinning it between the guardrail between a lane of the freeway and the train tracks.

According to Sgt. Pessell a Metrolink train grazed the leg of the man that had been ejected from the vehicle as he jumped off the tracks. According to Inspector Stowers the man and woman from the vehicle were transported to an area trauma center in critical condition. Stowers also stated that there were 23 passengers on the Foothill Transit Bus at the time of the accident and one passenger was treated for minor injuries and no one was injured on the Metrolink train.

The Metrolink train was delayed approximately 30 minutes after the accident according to Metrolink officials.
