Oscar Winner and Screenwriter of Pulp Fiction Gets Jail Sentence

September 30, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports the Oscar winning screen writer of films like Pulp Fiction and Beowulf received a jail sentence in a deadly DUI crash in January 2008.

Roger Avary, famed screenwriter was driving a Mercedes sedan at the time of the crash and according to police was driving at over 100 miles per hour. Prosecutor Michael Lief stated that at the time of the collision Avary age 44 had a blood alcohol level that was over the legal limit and had passenger Andreas Zini age 34 and Avary’s wife Ojai in the vehicle.

Zini was killed in the collision on January 13th, and this led to Avary being charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, along with other charges. He pled not guilty in a Ventura County courthouse and later changed his plea to guilty on all charges in August.

Avary was sentenced to 365 days in jail and given five years probation, according to prosecutor Lief in the death of Zini a resident of Italy, who had been visiting Avary on his honeymoon.

According to investigators Avary, his wife, Zini and his wife were on their way to Avary’s residence when he was speeding, driving under the influence and struck a telephone pole.

Zini’s widow and parents traveled from Italy to attend the trial and hear the sentencing. Zini’s widow had been in another vehicle the night Avary struck the pole in his Mercedes.

According to Avary’s attorney he changed his plea in order to get the case over with and move on with his life, and he has also settled a civil suit agreement he reached with Zini’s family for $4.1 million dollars.

Orange County Man Killed In Swimming Pool Crash

September 25, 2009 (by Horatio Algren ) According to reports by swimming pool accident lawyers, an Orange County man has been identified after crashing into a swimming pool.

Acording to Orange County Police Sgt. Eric Rosauer the man has been identified as 20 year old Ryan Kritz of Orange. Kritz was driving a Acura sedan in the vicinity of Cannon Street near Escola when he drove over the center median, and then crashed through a concrete block wall. The Acura sedan then struck part of the house and landed in the swimming pool at a residence in the 5000 block of Full Moon Court.

According to Sgt. Rosauer there was damage done to the home, but there were no injuries and Kritz was pronounced dead at the scene. Rosauer stated that the coroner’s office is investigating the cause of death and it is not known if drugs or alcohol were involved in the cause of the crash.

Deadly Hit And Run Vehicle Suspected Of Street Racing

September 21, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports a Sunday night hit and run driver suspected of racing at the time of the deadly motor vehicle incident.

According to Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Investigator Juan Zamora the accident occurred at approximately 5:25 p.m. at a cross walk at the intersection of 74th and Seventh Street. The victim that was struck and killed identified as a 45 year old woman, who was killed in the crosswalk when she was struck.

The woman according to Investigator Zamora was crossing the highway from north to south and the vehicle that struck her was traveling eastbound on route 74. According to witnesses the driver of the vehicle was racing with another vehicle at the time of the accident and did not stop after hitting the woman. The driver according to witnesses sped away from the scene and has been described as a dark colored compact coupe.

It was stated by Investigator Zomora that the vehicle involved in the accident sustained damage to the front end. Police are asking for anyone with information about the hit and run or the driver of the dark colored compact coupe to contact the Parris Police Department.

405 Freeway Rollover Blocks Lanes

September 17, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports an I-405 Freeway accident blocked the No. 2,3 and 4 lanes after a rollover accident.
According to the California Highway Patrol Officer Denise Quesada an accident involving a plumbing van and a white Toyota sedan that lost control. After losing control the Toyota struck the back of the plumbing van causing it to overturn at approximately 10:56 a.m.

The accident occur in the vicinity of Bushard Street and the plumbing van that had rolled over in the crash blocked the No. 2,3 and 4 southbound lanes causing a SigAlert to be issued lasting approximately an hour according to California Highway Patrol Officer Nichols. The officer also stated that the van landed on the driver’s side facing the oncoming traffic in the southbound lane and the Toyota was off the right shoulder of the road. The Toyota had to be pulled out of the iceplant by a tow truck and the plumbing van had to be lifted by a larger tow truck.

According to CHP Officer Nichols there were no injuries and the driver of the van was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Pomona Traffic Collision Injures Eight

September 12, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports a Saturday morning collision injured six people, along with two Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies. The accident occurred in the vicinity of the Fairplex near McKinley and White Avenues at approximately 11:47 a.m.

The deputies were in their patrol vehicle traveling south on White Avenue and according to Pomona Police Stg. Mike Olivieri the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s vehicle collided with a red Honda Civic.

The other vehicles involved in the collision were turning into the Fairplex when the officer driving the patrol car lost control striking them. There were six vehicles involved in the collision and according to Sgt. Olivieri there were eight people that were transported to area hospitals with injuries including the two Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

According to a Los Angeles County Deputy that was at the scene of the accident taking photographs stated that both of the deputies involved in the collision sustained broken femurs.

Sgt. Olivieri said that this will be a complex collision to reconstruct that could take weeks to investigate and that the many witnesses to the crash will need to be interviewed a second time. The officer also stated that the Pomona Department Major Accidents Investigation Team is investigating the accident.

Elderly Man Struck By Vehicle Crossing Busy Street

September 9,2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports by Orange County car accident attorneys, an elderly man was struck by a vehicle while crossing a busy Anaheim street.

According to police they are investigating the accident that occurred blocking traffic in the vicinity of Brookhurst Street and Ball Road.

Anaheim Police Department Officer Sgt. Rick Martinez stated that a man in his 80’s was struck by a black Acura before 9:00 a.m. about 100 yards north of the intersection. The man was struck by the vehicle when he was approximately half way across Brookhurst Street and had been walking west at the time he was struck.

According to Officer Martinez stated there was no crosswalk where the man had been crossing and clothing and personal belongings were strewn across the street.
Anaheim Police Officer Kyle Bernard stated the man was transported to UCI Medical Center, and the northbound traffic on Brookhurst was blocked between Ball Road and Brookmore Avenue.

There has been no report on the man’s condition.

Actress Renee Zellweger In Beverly Hills Crash

According to reports actress Renee Zellweger was involved in a two vehicle crash in Beverly Hills.

According to Lt. Tony Lee of the Beverly Hills Police Department the accident occurred Monday when a Ford Explorer made an illegal U-turn colliding with Zellweger's silver Mercedes. The collision occurred at the intersection of Canon Drive and Brighton Way at approximately 12:00 p.m.

Zellweger who was traveling alone and the driver of the other vehicle were uninjured in the collision according to police and there were only minor damages done to the vehicles. Zellweger’s silver Mercedes is said to have had damage to one of the headlights.

According to a statement released by Zellwegers represtative the collision was not the actresses fault, and that the other vehicle had made a U-turn.
