October 21, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports a 48 year old woman is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.
According to Orange County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Jim Amormino stated that Tuesday a 48 year old woman was struck by what is reported to be a medium blue pickup truck while crossing in a cross walk during rush hour. The accident occurred at approximately 5:00 p.m. while the woman identified as Zhen Huang was crossing five lanes on Magnolia Avenue.
Crosswalk Accident
Amormino stated that Huang was returning home from a walk when she was struck and that she was hit by the truck outside of the cross walk, causing the
cross walk accident. Investigators believe from skid marks that the truck that was making a left turn from Pacific Avenue onto Magnolia Avenue was trying to beat a yellow light and was traveling at approximately 25 miles per hour at the time of the hit and run.
Estimated Speed
The estimated speed investigators were able to determine from skid marks on the road. It is reported that when Huang was struck by the truck she was dragged approximately 10 feet, and she was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
Police and the family are asking for any witnesses to come forward that have information about the accident. They do not have a description of the driver, but the truck was a late model, that is light blue full size pickup truck with a work rack in the back of the truck.
