Train Hits Police Cruiser in Long Beach Injuring Passengers

July 7, 2010-According to reports a train struck a police cruiser in Long Beach accident injuring passengers. According to Fire Battalion Chief Frank Hayes the accident occurred at approximately 1:00 p.m. in the vicinity of Long Beach Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway.

The Los Angeles Metro Blue Line train collided with the police cruiser pushing it down the tracks, pinning the officer inside of the vehicle. The collision injured the police officer and 11 of the Metro Blue Line train.

Rescuers had to use special equipment to cut the officer out of the police cruiser, which took about thirty minutes.

According to police officer Israel Ramirez the officer was transported to the hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening. Officer Ramirez stated investigators are still investigating the cause of the crash.
