December 7, 2011 - According to reports a teen crossing the street after school was struck and is listed in critical condition. According to the Newport Beach Police Department a 17 year old student was struck, while crossing the street Tuesday, after school.
Newport Beach Police Department spokeswoman Kathy Lowe the 17 year old student was struck at approximately 2:50 p.m. while crossing an intersection bordering to Newport Harbor High School. The student was struck by a black Chevrolet Tahoe that was traveling northbound on Irvine Avenue at Margaret Drive.
According to Lowe the student was in a crosswalk at the time that she was struck by the Tahoe and was transported to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, where she is listed in critical condition. According to Newport Beach police the driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe, identified as Marnie J. Lpppincott age 38 of Costa Mesa, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
According to Lowe investigators are continued to investigate the accident Tuesday evening blocking off the area. The Newport Beach police are asking any witnesses to contact traffic investigator Mike Schiavi.
