One Person Injured in 22 Freeway Chain Reaction Crash

February 22, 2012 - According to reports one person was injured in a chain reaction crash on the 22 Freeway. According to the California Highway Patrol the chain reaction crash occurred in the westbound lanes of the 22 Freeway at approximately 8:40 a.m. in the vicinity of South Glassell Street.

The crash that blocked westbound lanes of the 22 Freeway involved three vehicles, reported to be a Ford Focus, Honda Odyssey and a Volvo XC90 SUV, California Highway Patrol Officer Alvin Yamaguchi said. Officer Yamaguchi said that the accident occurred when the driver of the Ford Focus and the driver of the Honda Odyssey stopped for traffic that was slow in the westbound No.1 lane.

The driver of the Volvo SUV did not slow down and struck the rear of the Honda. The Honda was then pushed into the rear of the Ford, according to CHP officer Yamaguchi.
According to CHP Officer Yamaguchi the driver of the Volvo identified as a woman was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

According to the California Highway Patrol the three car chain reaction accident in the westbound lanes of the 22 Freeway, closed both the carpool lane and the fast lane for approximately 30 minutes, while the scene of the crash was investigated.
