Driver Killed Another Person Injured in Crash that Closed Brea Canyon Roadway

April 11, 2012 - According to reports the driver of one vehicle was killed and another driver was injured in a crash that closed Brea Canyon Road for about four hours.

According to the California Highway Patrol the Brea Canyon accident was reported at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Brea Canyon Road in the vicinity east of Tonner Canyon Road in Brea.

California Highway Patrol officials said the vehicles involved in the accident were an Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck driven by a 19 year old and a Honda Civic driven by a 53 year old.

According to CHP the S-10 driver was traveling northbound on Brea Canyon Road when she struck the right shoulder guardrail. The impact caused the pickup to bounce back into the roadway, where the driver sideswiped the Honda Civic that was traveling southbound.

Fullerton Brea Fire Department battalion chief Steve Wood said the driver of the S-10 pickup truck and the driver of the Civic were removed from their vehicles and transported to an area hospital.

California Highway Patrol officials said the driver of the Honda Civic was transported to St. Jude Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. CHP said a passenger in the S-10 was transported to UCI Medical Center. According to the California Highway Patrol the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
