April 6, 2012 - According to reports a teen was killed in a suspected street racing crash and authorities are looking for truck allegedly involved. According to authorities the accident occurred at approximately 5:00 p.m. near the intersection of Hazard Avenue and Hoover Street in Westminster, in the vicinity of the 405 Freeway.
Police said the accident believed to be a street racing crash involved a red Toyota compact and a Dodge pickup truck. The driver of the Toyota has been identified as Joel Dayoan age 19, who was racing with a grey Dodge pickup truck, at a high rate of speed, when Dayoan spun out and lost control of the vehicle. Dayoan traveled into oncoming traffic hitting a gray Honda Accord, authorities said.
According to Westminster police, Dayoan struck the Honda with enough force to completely demolish the passenger side of the car where his sister Jessica Dayoan was sitting. Jessica Dayoan age 18 was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, Westminster Police Officer Cameron Knaeurhaze said.
Two men were also injured in the crash; one of the men was Jorel Dayoan, according to authorities. Dayoan was transported to UCI Medical Center, where he was released Friday morning. The driver of the Honda minivan remains hospitalized in serious condition, authorities said.
Officer Knaurhaze said that the driver of the Dodge pickup could face hit and run charges and the Westminster Police Department is investigating the crash. According to Westminster police if the investigation determines that street racing was the cause of the crash, both drivers would be charged with manslaughter or even murder charges.
