April 5, 2012 - According to reports a two car collision caused one of the vehicles to be propelled into a house. According to Newport Beach Police Department spokeswoman Kathy Lowe the accident occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Iris Avenue and Fourth Avenue.
The two car collision involved a Mercedes and a white Honda Element and the intersection where the two vehicles collided had four stop signs, Lowe said. Lowe said the impact of the crash caused the Mercedes to go over a low wall, then down a shrub covered slope and crash through the back bedroom of a house, located at 700 Iris Avenue.
According to Deanne Snyder a neighbor, the driver of the Mercedes climbed out of the vehicle after crashing through the house. Snyder said she ran over to see if anyone needed help in the house, but the doors were locked.
According to Lowe the house is vacant, due to the owner being deceased and is in probate. Lowe said no citations have been issued and it will take Newport police several days to investigate the accident.
The driver of the Mercedes identified as a woman, was sitting in a patrol car after the accident, but said she was not injured.
