June 11, 2012 - According to reports a driver was captured on video hitting a pedestrian and then fleeing the scene. According to Buena Park Police Cpl. Andy Luong, officers responded to the accident at approximately 1:00 p.m. Sunday, in the vicinity of Orangethorpe Avenue and Campus Drive.
When police arrived at the scene, they found a 20 year old man that was struck, while crossing Campus Drive, Cpl. Luong said. The man was hit with enough force that he struck the windshield and was thrown into the air, before hitting the ground. Cpl. Luong said police believe the vehicle was a gold four door vehicle, which might be a Mitsubishi Galant with tinted windows. The vehicle officials believe will have moderate damage on the driver’s side windshield.
The driver is described as a Hispanic man and there was a Hispanic woman in the vehicle that had her hair in a bun, according to authorities.
Cpl. Luong said that police obtained a video from a surveillance camera and have witnesses statements leading them to believe that the driver accelerated toward the pedestrian and did not use his breaks. According to authorities the 20 year old man that was struck by the vehicle did not have life threatening injuries and is expected to recover.
Police said the pedestrian has not been cooperative with police and they have not determined if there is a connection between the injured pedestrian and the driver that fled the scene.
In an attempt to get the public’s help, the Buena Park Police Department has released the video of the hit and run. They are requesting anyone with information to contact Buena Park Police Department investigators.
