June 4, 2012 - According to reports a multi-vehicle crash in Costa Mesa caused a driver to be trapped in their vehicle. According to the California Highway Patrol multi-vehicle accident occurred at approximately 8:43 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the 55 Freeway in the vicinity north of Del Mar Avenue in Costa Mesa.
California Highway Patrol officials said the accident involved four vehicles and blocked the northbound 55 Freeway No. 1 and 2 lanes, causing a SigAlert to be issued. One person was trapped in their vehicle and had to be extricated from the side of the vehicle by firefighters, CHP officials said.
California Highway Patrol officials said that the SigAlert that was issued was expected to be canceled at approximately 9:00 a.m., but had to be extended, while firefighters worked to free the person that was trapped in the vehicle. The SigAlert was finally ended after the lanes were cleared at about 9:45 a.m.
