Solo-Vehicle Accident Results in Driver’s Death
April 30, 2012 - According to reports a solo-vehicle crash in Fullerton was fatal for the driver of a pickup truck.
According to Fullerton Police Department Sgt. Tony Bogart, the solo-vehicle accident occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. in the 700 block of South Magnolia Avenue in the vicinity of the Buena Park High School and Orangethorpe Avenue.
Fullerton Police Sgt. Bogart said the accident involved a Mazda pickup truck that was traveling northbound on Magnolia Avenue, when the driver identified as a man. The pickup truck veered off of the road and drove over a curb. The truck smashed into a tree that became up rooted and then struck a utility pole.
The truck came to rest on its side, against the telephone pole and the driver was found deceased in the truck by Fullerton police officers, Sgt. Bogart said. Sgt. Bogart said the cause of the accident remains under investigation and it is unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
Magnolia Avenue was closed while investigators assessed the scene of the deadly crash, Sgt. Bogart said.

Vehicle Rollover on 22 Freeway Crash Causes SigAlert
April 28, 2012 - According to reports a vehicle rollover crash on the 22 Freeway in Santa Ana caused a SigAlert to be issued. According to California Highway Patrol officials the accident occurred at approximately 2:42 p.m. Saturday in the westbound lanes of the 22 Freeway. Officials said the rollover accident happened in the vicinity east of Grand Avenue in Santa Ana.
California Highway Patrol officials said the rollover accident occurred when the driver spun out, causing the vehicle to rollover into the right shoulder of the westbound lanes of the freeway. Any injuries have not been released by CHP, who issued a SigAlert for the westbound lanes of the 22 Freeway.
California Highway Patrol officials said the SigAlert was expected to last for approximately 30 minutes.

Former Cal State Fullerton Wrestler Killed In Traffic Crash
April 24, 2012 - According to reports a former Cal State Fullerton wrestler was killed on Monday in a traffic crash. According to the California Highway Patrol the accident occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. Monday in the northbound lanes of the 133 Freeway, in the vicinity north of the 73 Freeway.
California Highway Patrol officials said the former wrestler identified as Andre Gonzalez age 22, is believed to have failed to negotiate a curve on the roadway in his Chrysler PT Cruiser. Gonzalez friends and family said, he was a senior from San Jose that would have graduated in May with a degree in kinesiology and was the captain of the wrestling squad in 2010-2011.
Former coach of Gonzales at Cal State Fullerton, Risto Marttinen said that he was persistent during his freshman year on the team. Rollover Crash on 55 Freeway—No Injuries Reported
April 23, 2012 - According to reports a rollover accident occurred on the 55 Freeway Monday morning in Costa Mesa. According to the California Highway Patrol the rollover accident occurred at approximately 8:54 a.m. on the 55 Freeway, in the vicinity south of the 73 Freeway.
California Highway Patrol Officer Gabe Montoya said the Saturn Vue was seen veering off of the road and then flipping onto its side. Officer Montoya said paramedics responded to the scene of the rollover accident, but no injuries were reported.
California Highway Patrol officials said the cause of the crash is under investigation.

Driver Killed in Collision with a Fire Truck
April 23, 2012 - According to reports a driver was killed on Sunday after colliding with a fire truck in Hesperia. According to police the accident occurred on Sunday morning at approximately 6:15 a.m. in northbound lanes of the 15 Freeway at the Oak Hill off ramp.
Police investigators said the driver of the car, identified a 20 year old lost control of the vehicle crashing into the fire truck, while exiting the 15 Freeway that was stopped on the shoulder of the road. The fire truck was pulled onto the shoulder at the off ramp, due to a rollover accident, with its lights on police investigators said.
According to police the San Bernardino firefighter in the truck suffered minor injuries in the collision. Police said the accident closed several lanes of the 15 Freeway. One Pedestrian Dead—7 Year Old Critical—Police Looking for Hit and Run Driver
April 22, 2012 - According to reports police are searching for a hit and run driver that killed one person and critically injured a 7 year old girl in South Los Angeles. According to the Sheriff’s Department the hit and run accident occurred at approximately 6:00 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Watts Avenue and Santa Ana Boulevard in Willowbrook.
Police said a man and 7 year old girl were crossing at the intersection inside of a crosswalk at the time they were struck by the hit and run driver. The vehicle involved in the hit and run has been identified as a white Cadillac Escalade, sheriff’s officials said.
Sheriff’s officials said the man was pronounced dead at the scene of the hit and run. The 7 year old girl was transported from the scene, to an area hospital and is currently listed in critical condition.
Sheriff’s officials said the driver of the Cadillac Escalade has been described as a heavy-set Hispanic man, with short hair and a goatee. They said the Escalade would be missing the Cadillac emblem and is believed to have damage to the front end, including flaking paint.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the deadly hit and run accident to contact the California Highway Patrol or call Crime Stoppers.

Driver Arrested for DUI After Pulling Crash Victim From Burning Truck
April 15, 2012- According to reports a driver was arrested after crashing into a vehicle and causing it to catch fire and then helping to pull the driver out of the pickup truck.
According to the California Highway Patrol the accident occurred early Saturday morning on Interstate 805 in the vicinity of state Route 52 in San Diego.
California Highway Patrol officials said the driver of a white BMW struck a pickup truck that was stalled on the shoulder of the road.
The impact caused the pickup’s rear axle to be thrown from the vehicle and caused the gas tank to explode. The burning gas was sprayed onto the freeway, CHP officials said.
The driver of the BMW that is suspected of driving under the influence assisted person passing by to pull the driver out of the burning pickup truck.
The California Highway Patrol officials said the drive of the pickup and the driver of the BMW were transported to an area hospital for treatment and both are expected to make a full recovery.
According to the California Highway Patrol the driver of the BMW is facing charges of driving under the influence.

Two Car Crash Traps One Person—Moderate Injuries Suffered
April 13, 2012 - According to reports one person was trapped in a vehicle after a two car crash.
According to Fullerton Police Department Cpl. Tim Kandler the accident occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Drive and Euclid Street. Cpl. Kandler said that the two vehicle crash resulted in one of the vehicles rolling over and one person had to be cut from the vehicle.
According to Fullerton Police Department officials one person in the two car crash suffered moderate injuries and was transported to an area hospital, after being cut from the overturned vehicle. Cpl. Kindler said it is not known at this time what caused the two vehicle roll over crash that resulted in injuries. Police are continuing to investigate the accident.

Driver Killed Another Person Injured in Crash that Closed Brea Canyon Roadway
April 11, 2012 - According to reports the driver of one vehicle was killed and another driver was injured in a crash that closed Brea Canyon Road for about four hours.
According to the California Highway Patrol the Brea Canyon accident was reported at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Brea Canyon Road in the vicinity east of Tonner Canyon Road in Brea.
California Highway Patrol officials said the vehicles involved in the accident were an Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck driven by a 19 year old and a Honda Civic driven by a 53 year old.
According to CHP the S-10 driver was traveling northbound on Brea Canyon Road when she struck the right shoulder guardrail. The impact caused the pickup to bounce back into the roadway, where the driver sideswiped the Honda Civic that was traveling southbound.
Fullerton Brea Fire Department battalion chief Steve Wood said the driver of the S-10 pickup truck and the driver of the Civic were removed from their vehicles and transported to an area hospital.

Bicyclist Injured in Roadway Rage Accident
April 9, 2012 - According to reports a bicyclist was injured in a roadway rage incident.
According to member Jennifer Beatty of the L.A. biking community bicyclist Susanna Schick age 42 was injured on Friday night, when a white Lexus allegedly chased her in the vicinity of Spring Street and Second and Third Street.
Schick was reportedly riding in a green bike lane on Spring Street at approximately 11:30 p.m. when the driver of the Lexus traveled across two lanes of traffic and into the bike lane.
Beatty said that Schick and the driver exchanged words, at a traffic signal, prior to being struck and waking up later laying face down in the street.
Scheck suffered three brakes in her pelvis, a broken collarbone and six broken ribs. The Los Angeles Police Department said that they were not aware of the incident and it is unclear if a police report was filed.

Teen Killed in Suspected Street Racing Crash—Authorities Looking for Truck
April 6, 2012 - According to reports a teen was killed in a suspected street racing crash and authorities are looking for truck allegedly involved. According to authorities the accident occurred at approximately 5:00 p.m. near the intersection of Hazard Avenue and Hoover Street in Westminster, in the vicinity of the 405 Freeway.
Police said the accident believed to be a street racing crash involved a red Toyota compact and a Dodge pickup truck. The driver of the Toyota has been identified as Joel Dayoan age 19, who was racing with a grey Dodge pickup truck, at a high rate of speed, when Dayoan spun out and lost control of the vehicle. Dayoan traveled into oncoming traffic hitting a gray Honda Accord, authorities said.
According to Westminster police, Dayoan struck the Honda with enough force to completely demolish the passenger side of the car where his sister Jessica Dayoan was sitting. Jessica Dayoan age 18 was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, Westminster Police Officer Cameron Knaeurhaze said.
Two men were also injured in the crash; one of the men was Jorel Dayoan, according to authorities. Dayoan was transported to UCI Medical Center, where he was released Friday morning. The driver of the Honda minivan remains hospitalized in serious condition, authorities said.

April 5, 2012 - According to reports a two car collision caused one of the vehicles to be propelled into a house. According to Newport Beach Police Department spokeswoman Kathy Lowe the accident occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Iris Avenue and Fourth Avenue.
The two car collision involved a Mercedes and a white Honda Element and the intersection where the two vehicles collided had four stop signs, Lowe said. Lowe said the impact of the crash caused the Mercedes to go over a low wall, then down a shrub covered slope and crash through the back bedroom of a house, located at 700 Iris Avenue.
According to Deanne Snyder a neighbor, the driver of the Mercedes climbed out of the vehicle after crashing through the house. Snyder said she ran over to see if anyone needed help in the house, but the doors were locked.
According to Lowe the house is vacant, due to the owner being deceased and is in probate. Lowe said no citations have been issued and it will take Newport police several days to investigate the accident.

Responders Rescue One Person In Rollover Crash
April 4, 2012 - According to reports one person was rescued by responders in a Costa Mesa rollover crash. According to the Costa Mesa Police Department Sgt. Zack Hoferitza, the rollover crash occurred on South Coast Drive and Harbor Boulevard, Wednesday Morning.
The accident involved a Toyota Rav4 that was stopped at the intersection, when the crash occurred, involving three vehicles, Sgt. Hoferitza said. The impact of the crash caused the Rav4 to rollover and firefighters had to rescue the driver from the SUV.
Costa Mesa Sgt. Hoferitza said, the driver of the Rav4 suffered moderate injuries in the rollover crash and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Costa Mesa police officials said the cause of the crash was not immediately known and the accident scene was cleared in approximately 45 minutes.
According to Sgt. Hoferitza there were no other reported injuries in the three car crash.

California Highway Patrol Watching for Distracted Drivers During April
March 2, 2012 - According to reports, the California Highway Patrol and Orange County police officers are watching for distracted drivers during the month of April. According to authorities, the month of April has been declared National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, by the U.S. Congress.
California Highway Patrol officers and Orange County police officers plan to be on the lookout for drivers that are sending text messages or talking on cell phones that are violating the hands free law. This will also include other types of distractions, including eating, and applying makeup and other distractions.
According to the Sheriff’s Department they plan to have “zero tolerance” through the month of April for drivers that are distracted and not focusing on the road and will by citing drivers.
The Fountain Valley Police Department have set April 3 and April 18 as days that they will be on high alert for distracted drivers. According to the Sheriff’s Department Traffic Bureau drivers that decide to text or talk on a cell phone without a hands free device are violating the law and will be fined at least $160.00.

There were 13,321 citations issued in Orange County for drivers using non-hands free cell phones and drivers under the age of 18 using any type of cell phone. There were 730 citations issued for texting while driving by the California Highway Patrol in April 2011.

Woman Struck and Killed By Metrolink Train in Anaheim
March 31, 2012 - According to reports a woman was struck and killed Friday by a Metrolink Train in Anaheim. According to Anaheim Police Sgt. Frank Pinela a woman was struck and killed by a Metrolink train on Friday at approximately 5:30 p.m. in Anaheim.
The accident occurred in the vicinity of East Sycamore Street and North East Street.
Anaheim Police Sgt. Robert Dunn said the train was the Metrolink No. 604 train. Sgt. Dunn said that none of the passengers were injured and they were transferred to other trains and buses.
According to Sgt. Pinela a witness said that the woman that was struck and killed laid down on the tracks, prior to being struck. This is the third person to be struck and killed by a Metrolink train in Orange County within the past month, according to reports. March 12th, Denniss Groover age 51 of Ashland, Oregon was struck and killed in the 35000 block of Beach Road, in Dana Point. March 23rd Grant Grange age 50 of Anaheim, was struck and killed in Fullerton by a Metrolink train.

March 31, 2012 - According to reports at least one person was seriously injured in an Ortega Highway rollover crash.
According to the California Highway Patrol the accident occurred at approximately 1:20 p.m. Saturday on Ortega Highway inside of the Orange County border.
Orange County Fire Authority firefighters responding to the scene said one victim had to be cut out of the vehicle and two others in the vehicle were able to get out on their own.
One person was seriously injured and was transported to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo by emergency helicopter transport. One person was transported to Inland Valley Medical center in Riverside County, the California Highway Patrol said.
The California Highway Patrol has not released details for the cause of the rollover crash.
